How to increase income at your dog business without raising prices

Running a dog daycare and boarding business can be a rewarding venture, but it can also be challenging when it comes to generating income. While raising prices may seem like a quick solution, it’s not always the most feasible option, especially when you consider your local competition. Fortunately, there are several ways to increase your income without raising prices. Here are several effective strategies to consider:

Offer Additional Services

If you don’t already, consider offering additional services to your clients, such as grooming, training, or in-home pet checks. These services can generate additional income and make your business more attractive to potential clients.

Implement a Referral Program

Encourage your existing clients to refer their friends and family to your business by implementing a referral program. Offer a discount like half off a day of daycare, half off a night of boarding, of a free add-on service for each referral they bring to your business. This helps create loyalty without breaking the bank.

Offer Product Bundles or Package Sales
Bundling products and services together or a package sale can be an effective way to encourage customers to buy more (and bring in a chunk of revenue). For example, you could offer a discounted package deal that includes dog boarding and bath or grooming services or a great deal on a package for 50 daycare days. This not only increases sales, but it also provides more value to the customer. Make sure not to offer steep discounts on packages—we suggest no more than 10% discount for even the largest packages. Also, make sure to have an expiration date on your bundles and packages! Set your expiration dates for 1 or 2 years from date of purchase.

Host Special Events

Host special events such as holiday parties, dog birthday parties, or dog training seminars. Not only will these events bring in additional revenue, but they can also increase your brand awareness and local reputation.

Partner with Local Businesses

Partner with local businesses such as veterinarians, pet stores, or dog trainers (if you don’t offer training services). This can lead to cross-promotion and referrals from these businesses, generating additional revenue for your business.

Offer Discounts for Frequent Visitors

Offer 10% discounts or loyalty programs for clients who frequent your daycare or boarding services. This can encourage repeat business and generate additional revenue.

Sell Retail Products

If you don’t already, you may consider selling pet products such as toys, food, treats, collars, leashes, or bathing supplies. This can generate additional income and provide an added convenience for your clients. Retail items can easily be sold at pick-up times after daycare and drop-off times for boarding (“I see Fluffy doesn’t have any treats in his bag; would you like to add a Kong stuffed with peanut butter for his weekend stay with us?”).

Use Social Media

Use social media to promote your business and attract new clients. Share photos and videos of happy dogs at your daycare or boarding facility, post testimonials from satisfied clients, and offer exclusive promotions to your social media followers.
